Business Areas
The Department of Business and Innovation has six divisions, or business areas, that work closely together to support pro-business policies and programs, and the development of innovative industries.
Corporate Services and Communications
Corporate Services and Communications provides financial, legal, information technology and human resources systems and services to support DBI line divisions to deliver core services to clients. The division also operates the Victorian Government’s web portal for small business and the Victorian Business Line and incorporates Strategic Communications, which provides expert, integrated, whole-of-department communications advice and solutions as well as high-quality editorial, speechwriting and graphic design services.
Trade and Industry Development
The Trade and Industry Development Division engages with Victorian businesses to promote the development of sustainable industries that are growth orientated and export focused. The division also coordinates investment attraction and export facilitation and is responsible for the whole of Victorian Government framework guiding Victoria’s overseas relationships.Innovation and Technology
The Innovation and Technology Division’s role is to advise and implement the Victorian Government’s innovation and technology policies, initiatives and programs. The division also develops and implements policy and programs aimed to enhance innovation and technology capabilities available to Victorian industry to drive sustainable economic growth.Investment and Major Projects

Major Projects Victoria provides expert project delivery services and advice to Victorian Government departments and other agencies engaged in the delivery of complex, technically challenging, and invariably unique projects of state significance.Current projects include Biosciences Research Centre Project, Docklands Studios Melbourne, E-Gate, Federation Square East, Geelong Cultural Precinct, Geelong Trainshed Way Development, Kew Residential Services Redevelopment, Melbourne Market Relocation, Melbourne Park Redevelopment, Parkville Gardens, Princes Pier Restoration, Southbank Cultural Precinct Redevelopment and State Sports Facilities Project.
Policy
The Policy Division is integral to driving the Victorian economic development agenda, the coordination of the whole-of-department policy agenda, management of the integrated planning cycle, the ministerial interface; and development of DBI's strategic and business planning, budget strategy, governance and evaluation processes.Tourism and Aviation
