Youth Employment Scheme
The Youth Employment Scheme (YES) scheme provides traineeship opportunities within the Victorian Government for young people aged between 15 and 24. The aims of the scheme are to:
- increase the participation of people in their communities and in the workforce
- assist young people to gain paid work experience, training and qualifications that lead to sustainable employment
- assist communities to meet future skill and employment needs
Am I eligible?
You are eligible to apply for the scheme if you are currently:
- aged between 15 and 24 (as at the start of the traineeship)
- currently unemployed or not working more than 15 hours per week
- not currently engaged in tertiary education
- available for work
- don't have a university qualification, then DIIRD may be able to offer the start you're looking for.
What qualifications will YES give me?
By getting a YES traineeship, you can:
- get real experience in a real job
- gain an accredited certificate
- learn valuable new skills
- meet inspiring mentors
- gain the confidence you need to get on a career path
Do I get paid?
A YES traineeship gives you paid work experience usually for 12 months. To be eligible for YES you don't have to be registered with a Job Network provider or be receiving income support from Centrelink.
Success of YES
Since 2000, the Scheme has given over 3300 young people the break they need. DIIRD has played an active role in the Scheme, and has given over 150 young people a fresh start since 2003.
